Foster Care

The Smoky Mountain Children’s Home (SMCH) Foster Care Department continues to show consistent growth and expansion. It currently serves children from most counties in the East, including Knox, Smoky Mountain, TN Valley, Upper Cumberland, Mid-Cumberland, and Davidson County Regions. The Foster Care Department receives funding from continuum and the foster care contracts with the State of Tennessee Department of Children’s Services (DCS) and sub-contracts with other provider agencies. Smoky Mountain Children’s Home is a Performance Based Contractor (PBC) with the State of Tennessee Department of Children’s Services.

Foster Care is the basic Level I component of services for children with mild to moderate behavioral issues. These residents are maintained in the least restrictive family environment within the community. Level II foster care (Therapeutic Foster Care) is for children within our Level II continuum who have moderate to severe behavioral and emotional issues. These children will be assessed and provided therapy services and medication management. Level I and Level II Foster Care is provided through a Continuum Contract with the State of Tennessee DCS. SMCH Case Management works with the DCS-Family Service Worker (FSW) and Child and Family Team Meetings (CFTM) to develop treatment plans and goals in the best interest of the child.

Foster Parents

It is our strong belief that Christian homes are one of the greatest assets within our communities to care for abandoned, neglected, abused and misguided children and youth. We are continually looking for Christian families willing to partner with Smoky Mountain Children’s Home to provide a safe and stable family home for our children. It is within this kind of environment that a hurting child can truly be healed from the traumas they have faced. Foster parents can commit to them in therapeutic and permanent ways to bring stability to their lives. A foster family is also able to accept them as they are, but desire to see them become adults who play a meaningful role in society.

Smoky Mountain Children’s Home has Case Managers who are on call 24/7 to respond to crisis situations involving our clients and their families, as well as provide the children and foster families support. These Case Managers assist in contacting local law enforcement and/ or emergency medical or psychiatric services when needed. As a foster parent you will also receive a monthly stipend to cover the child’s clothing and material expenses. We are committed to providing you with ongoing support in order to assist you in providing the safest and most therapeutic environment for these children. You are required to complete the statewide PATH (Parents as Tender Healers) curriculum, along with other documentation in order to become a foster parent through SMCH and approved by the State of Tennessee.
